Atheist Bus Campaign

Dawkins, Bus

Check it out.

Honestly, I think it’s about time. There are so many religious (overwhelmingly Christian) groups that post all over subways and buses, you might as well have an more voices. Even if you do believe in God, you have to give the campaign credit for the “be good for goodness sake” ad. It’s saddening when people are only kind to others because an intangible force directs them to for the sake of a reward.

Call me when the Secular Humanist Jitney rolls into town.

I’m afraid you misunderstand the motives of christians. We do not run soup kitchens, care for drug addicts, minister the lonely the bereaved and dying (and so on) becuase we hope for a reward, but becuase we belive that those whom we care for are made in the image of God and therefore “what we do for them we do also for Him…cf Jesus in matthew’s Gospel … http://bible.oremus.org/?ql=98358178

Well that works for me anyway!

I’m afraid you’re misunderstanding this post. That wasn’t directed at everyone who believes in a God, but I have had the misfortune to have met enough supercilious people who only go “by the book” when it comes to respect others’ rights. It’s nearly as bad as people who mistreat those around them because they are confident that no one above them is judging. Besides, I’m sure there are a load of believers whose good deeds are not directly linked to their beliefs or Sunday habit; sometimes, people are just nice to each other.
Image, rules and afterlife accountability aside, we should all be good for goodness sake.
